Namaste! Welcome to Pure Curry!

I’m Avi, the passionate home cook and lifelong learner behind PureCurry.com. Hailing from India and now based in the U.S., I created this blog in 2016 to demystify Indian cooking for enthusiasts worldwide.

The Pure Curry Philosophy: Learn. Create. Savor.

My journey began like many others: blindly following recipes, often leading to mixed results. I realized the missing link wasn’t the ingredients, but understanding the why behind each step.

This realization is the foundation of Pure Curry, and it’s a lesson I apply to everything I do—from learning to make the perfect dal to becoming fluent in five languages.

I believe that anyone can master any skill, including the rich complexity of Indian cuisine, with the right mindset, practice, and feedback.

That’s why my recipes go beyond mere instructions. I explain the science, the technique, and the reasoning, empowering you to move from simply following a recipe to adapting and innovating confidently.

From Product Management to Pure Passion

For years, I applied the principles of continuous learning and problem-solving as a Software Product Manager. Now, as a stay-at-home dad, I’ve channeled that same energy into the kitchen. The past year has been a deep dive into cooking, dramatically deepening my skills and understanding.

My professional life taught me to break down complex systems—and Indian cuisine, with its intricate balance of spices and layering of flavors, is the ultimate system to master. It’s all about the Growth Mindset: seeing every challenge, every failed attempt, as valuable data for the next great meal.

Spice Mastery: Your Culinary Playground

Don’t be intimidated by the vast array of ingredients or the long list of steps! My goal is to simplify the process.

  • Explore my comprehensive articles on essential ingredients, techniques, and especially spice mastery.
  • Grasp the fundamentals and you’ll quickly find that Indian cuisine transforms from a daunting task into a creative playground.

I share tips and tricks gleaned from my family, years of experimentation, and continuous learning from top cookbooks and culinary videos (many of which have significantly deepened my understanding—you’ll find my curated recommendations below!).

The Language of Flavor

I’m a devoted language enthusiast—fluent in Spanish and currently learning French, German, Portuguese, and Italian. I see cooking as another language: a new vocabulary of ingredients, a grammar of techniques, and a culture of flavor waiting to be explored.

Just as you practice new verbs and phrases, you can practice the art of tempering spices and building a masala.

Let’s embark on this delicious journey together, embracing the philosophy of Learn. Create. Savor!
